小笠原諸島を除く関東以南の常緑広葉樹林に広く分布する。海外では台湾、中国、ベトナム、フィリピン、マレー半島およびインドネシア(ジャワ・スラウェシ)から知られる。ブナ科の常緑樹の枯れ葉に見られるが、特にスダシイ、ツブラジイやアカガシに多い。生きている時は腹部の両側に赤い斑紋がある。オスの第6腹節背板にある1対の角状突起は弱く外側に湾曲する。食菌性。
This species is widely distributed in evergreen broad-leaved forests south of the Kanto region, excluding the Ogasawara Islands. It is also known from Taiwan, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malay Peninsula and Indonesia (Java and Sulawesi). It is found in the dead leaves of evergreen trees of Fagaceae, but is especially common in Castanopsis cuspidata, C. sieboldii and Quercus acuta. When alive, this species has red spots on both sides of the abdomen. A pair of tubercles on the tergite VI of the male are weakly curved outwards. Fungus-feeder.
